Sunrise Surprise 6 Hour Rogaine - 5 February 2023
You will need to be up early for this one. Luckily the Hash House is less than 15km from downtown Perth.
With the success of "The Rivers Run Thru It" Paddle Foot Rogaine in early 2022, it's time again to Dust of your kayak, canoe, surf ski or Stand Up Paddleboard, get rid of the spiders from your PFD and join us for 6 hours of land and water based nav fun.
There will be land and water based controls not far from the Hash House.
For those fitter paddlers, you will need to do more kilometres to gather a better score.
Teams choosing to paddle must be able to swim 25m unaided. PFDs and footwear are compulsory whilst on the water.
There will be two remote locations on course where teams may leave paddle craft safely with volunteers in order to collect controls further from the waters edge. This will give you time to stretch your legs, grab a coffee or icecream, before returning to the water.
If paddling is not your thing, at least 85% of the controls will also be reachable on foot.
If you dont have access to water craft, hire of Sit-On-Top plastic (unbreakable and stable) skis are available through the WARA Shop. (https://wa.rogaine.asn.au/shop/index.php?route=product/search&search=Hire)
Hiring will be available until Monday (ed - TBC) before the event date. PFDs (buoyancy vests) and paddles can also be hired at this time.
The event will start at 6am in order to avoid the hottest part of the day.Registration will be open from 5am, with Map handout a surprise at this stage!!!
Setters - Grant Pepper and Daniel Murphy
Entries close Wednesday midnight 10 days prior to event
Reminder - how to get the event info and directions - click the unique link in your original confirmation of registration email (not the Paypal receipt), and if not a repeat of this link will be emailed to you on the Thursday before the event.
20 Jan Update from Setters
Checkpoint scouting is nearly complete.
- There will be NO ORANGE and WHITE flags at the Sunrise Surprise Paddlegaine. You will have to locate the FCUs from more detailed control descriptions. In some cases like above, the control will be around the base of a tree, in some cases hidden from view by surrounding grass!
- A reminder also that map planning will be on the race clock, with maps collected a short distance from the Hash House minutes after the 6am hooter sounds. Waterproof paper will be used, so bring permanent markers and something to stop your map blowing away when paddling.
