Wandering West LogoWARA’s Winter 24 Hour Rogaine is the Australian Championships. There are no special entry qualifications required. Anyone, whether social or gun-athlete may enter. The event will be in every way a typical WARA rogaine – enjoyable for everyone.

As the name suggests – the event will be held west of Wandering. In reality, the event is north west of Wandering in the bushy bits between Albany Hwy and the farm country. The terrain will be 90% forest (typical Wandoo, Jarrah and Marri), much of which is in catchment area. The Hash House site is set in a scenic and large clearing in Wandoo country. There are some controls in the farmland, which is an easy 3kms stroll or so from the Hash House. If you attended the Silvery Moon or Metrological you will find the terrain to be similar, but regrettably the hills to be smaller.

The control separation close to the hash house will be the same as what you are used to, however if you venture far from the Hash House you will find that the controls are more widely spaced. This is required because of the anticipated distance that some entrants will cover.
Since it is, after all, the Australian Champs:

  • The attendance (we hope) will be larger than normal and the registration process a little different in order to handle the extra people.
  • We will be offering meals, for a small extra fee, on the Friday Night and Saturday morning breakfast.
  • Dinner menu: Pumpkin Soup & Choice of Roast Chicken with Gravy, Beef Lasanga or Vegetable Frittata all served with Garden Salad.
  • Breakfast menu: Cereals, yogurt and fresh fruit. Coffee, Tea and Juice.

Brian Dunnage will be running the hash house – so expect some extravagance.

The deadline for entering the event is 27th of May, the usual Wednesday ten days before the event.

There is heaps of extra reading on the web page http://wa.rogaine.asn.au/ozchamps which includes some photos of the area, some detailed information and an FAQ (frequently asked questions) intended for visitors to WA. You can enter the event online from the same web address.

Gary, Jim, Steve and Keith.
