Lilac Quest Setters Report
At last year’s Metro March memorable items included the Wind Harp at the harbour in Fremantle along with the Walyalgup ‘Freo Doctor’ question…
This year it was the buzz of all the historical plaques dealing with both those of the land, the exploring ships and the colonial arrivals. The range of topics and information proved to be intriguing, including the old river port, the land grants, the convicts, the pubs, colonial courthouse and colonial goal…
Who would think that Guildford was originally a river port?
Fun with mapping, database construction and eventual printing was a challenge where even page breaks and page numbers added last minute printing excitement.
It was great to see people over the far reaches of the course. The banks of the Swan created a more Rogaine feel to the event, in contrast to the Town Square historical sections. In particular, it was great to be able to respond affirmatively to the request from those brave souls who wanted to include river swimming as part of their scoring and planning strategy…….
Given the adventurous nature of these intrepid Rogainers, additional high value controls to the South side of Helena River could well have been included as part of the adventure!!! (Then we would have seen some very muddy feet!)
From the events of the day: ·
- the Adelaide sign/ answer had unfortunately been removed post vetting from the gate / location.
- lost from the map - The Museum of Natural History was on Great Eastern Highway opposite Alfreds kitchen. and interestingly the Museum had had their $4,000 bronze tortoise stolen/lost earlier in the year, and then on request were able to place their stuffed tortoise in the foyer for us!
Thanks for the opportunity, thanks for the teamwork, what a blast!!! Pete
