The Schulstaad Waltz - 13/14 August 2011
The 2011 Australian University Challenge will be held in conjunction with the WA State Championships on 13-14 August 2011. The event will be held approximately 90 km south-east of Perth in gently rolling, moderately open bushland with varying obstacles from thick unforgiving bush to open easy walking Wando Forrest. For those traveling from interstate there are some very nice views to be had from some of the controls on course.
This event has been set with both championship events in mind and most of the controls are on strong features with a few set to test even the best navigators.
Due to camping restrictions on-site, the Hash House site is positioned in a corner of the course, making route choice extremely important and reducing the opportunity of two loops so the setters have decided that, for a little light relief, there will be a soup kitchen on the course.
The location of the soup kitchen will be shown on the event map and will be open to competitors for a four hour period from 8 pm to Midnight. It will be placed in reach of all entrants.
The Nigel Aylott Foundation supports this event by sponsoring one team from each state to compete at this event. Nigel was a keen rogainer and adventure races who was killed by a rock-fall in September 2004 during the Subaru Primal Quest adventure race in Washington State USA. He also won the Red Roo Rogaine, the 2000 Australian Championships held in WA.
The event is open to all university students, so grab a uni mate and give it a go.
