In 1894, The Kelloggs brothers invented cornflakes. In 1976, the Phillips siblings created rogaining. What do these two have in common? Absolutely nothing, unless you wish to run an event that’s both crunchy and delicious. Why the Kelloggses and Phillipses never got together to combine them is anyone’s guess, but it’s probably because they lived in different countries or perhaps because Messrs Kellogg died before rogaining was invented.

Anyway I digress. The Crunchy Nut Cluster Rogaine (copyright pending) is served! If you’ve ever wanted to do an event that’s Snap, Crackle and Pop full of easygoing pastures, lightly vegetated woodlands and hungry looking cows that’ll follow you for food, look no further than outback New Norcia. Whether you’re looking for a Sustained 24hr effort or one that’s Just Right for you, everyone is welcome to enjoy the splendour of the lush green farmlands, countless prominent gullies and other features you’ve come to love.

For those that have been to New Norcia for previous events, we’ve even got something All Bran new just for you. The map has been extended to the north and west on formerly unused areas with some nice views and even pockets of pine plantation (if the past two rogaines didn’t have enough for you) to vary the terrain. To make the event pleasant, there are very few patches of bush so thick that you’d wish the setters had been drowned in a bowl of milk and they’re all on the outskirts of the map anyway so the social rogainer can safely avoid these and focus on disappearing into gullies instead. We dare the Iron Man to take on the lot.

Also for something a bit different, the name has a Special Kryptic meaning. The controls on this event are in a cluster formation, so you’ll find a bunch of them clustered in an area before moving on to another cluster or perhaps collect half a cluster – who knows? Keep going until you’ve had your fill. As if that wasn’t enough, there is a novelty component to this rogaine. Scattered about the course will be bonus cereal boxes. Solve the cryptic clues to find one, bring it back and you’ll gain valuable points over your fellow competitors. The higher the sugar content, the more points you’ll get!

So come along, settle in for a Frostie night around the campfire and enjoy the bush hospitality of the Crunchy Nut Cluster Rogaine. Oh one final warning for the Froot Loops among you: the Moore River runs through the south and west of the map so if you want to fill up on high point clusters, prepare to get your feet wet. Either that or carry a bowl and spoon (for paddling) with you – The Dish not included.
