postheadericon Out of Control Rogaine - 21 and 22 June 1997

The June 1997 24 Hour Rogaine will be totally...

Out of Control

What does it threaten for you?

The good news is that it's only 100 km from Bunbury.
The bad news is that it's 160 km from Perth (and seems even further on the way home!)

The good news is that the map consists of about 50% farmland.
The bad news is that the other 50% is forest (ever heard of Mirkwood?)

The bad news is that that there is a river crossing to be made.
The good news is that it is not the mighty Blackwood and there are 4 bridges.

The good news is that if it doesn't rain you'll stay dry (except your feet).
The bad news is that if it does rain, bring your snorkels.

The bad news is that there are 72 controls on an A3 size map. (there would be more but we ran out of controls!)
The good news is that you might be able to get them all!

The good news is that the event will be exactly on a full moon.
The bad news is that it's also the winter solstice - the longest night of the year.

The good news is that there is plenty of terrific scenery.
The bad news is that you have to climb to the top of some big hills to see it.

The bad news is that there are lots of fences.
The good news is that none of them are electric (we hope!)

The good news is that there are lots of critters - kangaroos, sheep, cows and a quail.
The bad news is that there are lots of other critters - wedge-tailed eagles, emus, ticks, snakes, spiders, bats, razorback pigs, nazguls, triankywonkydonks, trogglodytes, bunyips, ants, triffids, etc. (Only joking... well, parts of it are true.)

The bad news is that Ian Thomsett, Gary Carroll, John Tonai-Moore and Di Challen are setting and vetting the event.
The good news for Ian Thomsett, Gary Carroll, John Tonai-Moore and Di Challen is that they don't have to compete in this event. They'll be warm and snug in their sleeping bags at night!

So come along and have a really GOOD time or a really BAD time, depending on how you view Rogaining!

See you there!
