postheadericon Come on down to South Park and meet some friends of mine - Novelty Rogaine – Saturday 2 Nov 2019

For the last Rogaine of the year, the Western Australian Rogaining Association has something special planned with our regular city-based Novelty Rogaine.

We invite you to ‘Come on down to South (Perth) - (Victoria) Park’ and explore what interesting things there are to find in this neighbourhood, from the new Stadium on Burswood Peninsula, the Albany Highway cafe strip, Perth Zoo, Heirisson Island, and including the beautiful Kensington bushland.

With Friendly faces everywhere, beautiful scenes along the Swan River and views of the Perth Skyline and up to Kings Park this will be a great way to leave all your woes behind.

Not to mention, you might even get to find some of the characters from the South Park animated TV series hanging out in this neck of the woods.  There might even be bonus points to be had with finding these cool little dudes!

So, put this one down in your diary and make sure you ‘Come on down to South Park and see if you can’t unwind’.

Location Victoria Park

Getting therePublic Transport is a great option to get to the event with numerous Transperth buses serving Victoria Park Transfer Station around a five-minute walk away. Check www.transperth.wa.gov.au to plan your journey. For those driving there is parking available.

Key times Registration and maps available from 12pm. Briefing 12:50pm. Start 1pm

A sausage sizzle will be provided from around 5pm, including bread rolls, soft drinks and a vegetarian option.

Facilities Toilets are available at the start. There are also several additional toilets available on the course with many of these locations marked on the map. Due to a major event being held the following weekend some areas around the registration area will be fenced off and we ask that participants do not enter these areas.

Maps Simple, street Directory style, 1:20,000. One A3 colour map per person. Compasses are allowed but not really necessary. No GPS or equivalent. Use only the map provided - no separate street directory. Do not use PCs, Laptops, PDAs or mobiles for googling answers! (This is against the spirit of rogaining!) Also - no guessing! If we think you appear to have been transported in space by answering a question at a control impossibly far away, it will be disallowed - so there!

Scoring Instead of control cards to be punched competitors will be given a questionnaire with an answer column to be completed.

Equipment needed

  • Writing implements (a clipboard may also help for easier writing, and highlighter pens may also be useful).
  • Hat/sunscreen/ sunglasses, walking/running shoes, suitable clothing... it could be quite warm at this time of year.
  • A compass isn't needed although some people like to have one for orientation at junctions or bland areas.
  • Bring at least 1 litre of drinking water, per person, to the event. Whilst some parks have water taps, and there are shops/ cafes/ pubs, for large areas of the course you will need to be self-sufficient.

·        Bring Chairs for the sausage sizzle (which is included in your entry fee).
